Summary
She saw the end of the world first. Not the sirens, not the broadcasts — the moment before, when the rails started singing in a pitch that only someone standing on them would hear. Everyone else got the warning later. She got sixty-four chapters of knowing exactly what was coming and having no way to make anyone believe her.
Everything after that is logistics.
The Last Girl on the Rails is a gritty post-apocalyptic LitRPG adventure set in an unforgiving cold-iron world, and it is unusual among survival stories in that the protagonist’s advantage is not strength, or a system, or a stockpile. It is that she started counting earlier than everybody else.
So the book is about brass. Cold sweat and rusted bolts, the baker’s measure, sparks in a scrap bucket, a valve miracle made out of salvaged fittings, dog bowls and liquid gold, and the cost of a thimble — which in a collapsed economy is a serious question with a real answer. A whistle at dusk. A well behind the thatch. Salt spray and twisted claws. The sundering of a shell, a crescent forged from scrap, frost on an iron frame. A blackwood exchange where the currency is favours. A whiteout on the plains, and what gets left to the frost.
Then the world starts building itself back into something with rules: an awakening of the blade, fluid gold and paper wards, a full moon over Fang Hollow, a hearth and a cauldron, rebar and repercussions. A traitor’s gambit, altars and fingerbones, a den beneath a hollow oak, justice at the tree line, the Chucklebox Charter, and the ledger of Sector 37 — which is where a lot of carefully hidden arithmetic finally comes due.
The progression is hard and earned. Combat leaves marks, resources are counted, and the story never lets her be stronger than the supplies she is standing on.
For readers who like hard survival mechanics, post-apocalyptic LitRPG, earned progression, and protagonists whose real superpower is preparation.

Read full chapter →Sheets smelled like vinegar and old fear. Tess Caldwell shoved them off her ribs with both hands, gasping so hard her collarbones locked, coughing up the stale taste of a bedroom that had been shut tight against the May humidity for three days straight. "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph," she muttered, digging the heels of her palms into her eye sockets until purple rings bloomed across the dark. "Tonight I’m putting kitchen shears under the mattress. I swear to God I am." The dream had not changed by a single inch of rusted rail. For twenty-eight consecutive nights it had rolled in at precisely 3:15 in the morning, the low, gut-churning screech of brake shoes biting steel, the cold sway of a dark railcar, and then the platform. Some nights the platforms smelled of wet moss and slaughterhouses; other nights they opened onto sunny alpine meadows that turned out to be crawling with two-headed badgers and bloated corpses. She had spent whole workdays sitting at her dispatch desk with toothpicks propping her eyelids up, running logistics spreadsheets while her brain reran memories of hacking through fungal hounds with an entrenching tool. It felt like working an eight-hour night shift inside a…
