Summary
The ceiling is white and curved, ridged with panels that hum. Fluorescent — but not the fluorescent of any hospital he has known. The light has a violet edge to it, and the hum is too low, too steady, like something breathing at the edge of hearing. He turns his head, and the motion costs him. The skin on his arm is wrong: too smooth, too young, brown where his own arm had been a pale, freckled thing that burned in any sun worth the name. He lies very still for a long time, and then he starts working out what happened to him.
God-Eye Fleet is a sprawling military science fiction epic — ninety-nine chapters of fleets, factions, and a protagonist whose survival was never part of anyone’s plan. What begins as a waking becomes a game of positioning played across star systems, against people who have had centuries to learn the rules and no intention of explaining them.
He is given ships that were not his, a crew the registry lists as dead, and a commission nobody wanted him to hold. He is laughed out of the Admiralty and handed a museum. Then the wolves gather at Agbat, the belt goes blind, and a ghost fleet starts a waiting game that only one side knows it is playing. There is a raider named Tally Voss who keeps not dying. There is a report that never gets sent. There is a promotion that happens entirely by accident and cannot be declined.
The war is fought in three currencies: hulls, information, and the willingness of other people to believe you are someone worth following. He has none of the first, is short on the second, and has to manufacture the third from scratch.
For readers who want scale, political maneuvering, fleet combat with real mechanics, and a plot that trusts them to keep up.

Fluorescent, but not the fluorescent of any hospital he had known — the light had a violet edge to it, and the hum was too low, too steady, like something breathing at the edge of hearing. He turned his head, and the motion cost him. The room swam. There was a drip in his arm, a tube taped to the inside of his elbow, and the skin of his arm — he stared at it — the skin was wrong. Too smooth. Too young. Brown, where his own arm had been a pale, freckled thing that burned in any sun worth the name. The brown skin was attached to a hand that was attached to a wrist that was not his wrist. He lay very still for a long time, and he let the two rivers run. One river was Colin Alden. Forty-three years old. A mid-level designer of wargame scenarios for a company whose name he had stopped believing in around year nine. A reserve naval officer who had never seen combat and had spent a decade training other men for wars he privately thought the species was…
